Ysatis Rios-Sabat is a writer and social media manager who is passionate about magnifying underrepresented voices. Her work fuses cultural insight, human connection, and observations on current events to explore their impact on everyday lives. She believes the real story is found within empathy for her subjects and the communities each story represents. Ysatis has worked with various outlets and is currently building her own Latin-focused magazine, Tilde. Last semester I read a Chapter in one of my textbooks that spoke about approaching the family members and friends of individuals who had passed away suddenly. I remember reading, re-reading and highlighting that chapter over and over again, just in case the situation were to ever occur. Unfortunately, this past week it did. And let me tell you, no matter how much I studied that chapter everything slipped my mind when I dialed the victim’s girlfriend. There was so much pain in one voice.

I ask you all to hold your friends and family a little bit tighter tonight and everyday after.

In my bio, I’ve attached the brief I wrote on Joshua Sanchez, the victim of a hit-and-run that occurred on East Colonial on March 19. Sanchez was only 23. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. In this article, Joshua’s GoFundMe is attached. I’ve also attached it below.

Over 30 hospitals in Central Florida will, once again, allocate COVID-19 vaccines to vulnerable individuals under 65, according to a tweet by Florida State Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith.

According to the tweet, an additional 28,500 doses of the vaccine will be allocated to 33 hospitals next week. The allocation follows Gov. Ron Desantis’ Dec. 23 executive order authorizing hospitals to vaccinate individuals under 65 who are deemed “extremely vulnerable” to COVID-19.

A UCF student was taken to the hospital on Jan. 30 following a vehicular collision on the intersection of North Alafaya Trail and Corporate Boulevard.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol’s arrest report, a Toyota Scion driven by 58-year-old Terry Lee Wood crashed into the student’s car after trying to avoid spike strips set down by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The accident occurred at 5:35 PM. The report did not state whether Wood’s was being chased. #nsm #nsmtoday #ucf

As Fall semester comes to a close, UCF’s graduating class prepares to enter life after college while in the midst of a pandemic.

Nada Refaie, 22, graduates this December with a bachelors degree in business administration.

“What UCF did for us, as far as grad walk, made me feel like we were not in the middle of the pandemic,” she said. “It made us not feel less than the other students who graduated last year.”

Refaie said that though the transition to Zoom due to COVID-19 was different, it was not all that bad.

“I was used to online classes, so transitioning to zoom was doable,” Refaie said.

She said she hopes to graduate and find a job within the human resource management field.

“I want to continue my MBA and help organizations in order to support them and make this world a better place,” she said.

As seen from the rooftop of #Garage B on Wednesday, UCF’s Water Tower stands far above #campus terrain. The tower, located in the southeast corner of the main campus, transports water to buildings, fire hydrants, and suppression systems across the 1,415-acre property, according to #UCF archives.
